As Grade 10 learners in South Africa, we have come to understand and appreciate the education which we receive and have come to realise how privileged we are when unfortunately, others aren’t. Literacy levels and the amount of children that are lucky to receive an education are sadly low with 80% of Grade 4 learners being unable to read and write in South Africa. On a smaller scale, literacy rates in the Eastern Cape are at a minimum which jeopardises the futures of many young children. We cannot just bare witness to the fact that so many young children in our country are illiterate, so what is our plan of action? The Grade 10 learners of Selborne College have come together amongst themselves in groups along with the nonprofit organisation, EduSport Youth to raise funds with the hope of bettering the educational situations of many. Unfortunately we cannot fix the problem country-wide but we look to start small by raising funds to build a necessary Literacy centre for a school in need, located in Mdantsane. This small start to solving a HUGE problem will be of big influence and help to those in need. When we put our minds together, we should look to achieve the goals we have set. We cannot do it alone, so any donation or sponsorship will move us a step closer to obtaining our worthy initiative of raising enough funds to build a Literacy Center. As a group we will be washing as many cars within an 8-hour window as possible. We need your support for our CarWash For Lives. Donations will be greatly appreciated and accepted in the link below. Thank you!
