Short Story

109km for Education!

Walter Dladla is riding the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2026 for the kids of Amaoti.

On Sunday, 8 March 2026, our Board member and cycling enthusiast Walter Dladla is taking on the 109km Cape Town Cycle Tour and he’s doing it for something bigger than the finish line.

He’s riding for Lungisani Indlela to raise R25,000 to transform children’s lives through education.

As a long-time board member of Lungisani Indlela, he’s seen how access to education can break poverty cycles, build futures, and bring hope.

“This ride is for every child in Amaoti who dreams of more. I’m cycling to give them a chance.”  Walter Dladla

Story

Lungisani Indlela is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families. Our programs are designed to provide holistic support, addressing both educational and psychosocial needs. Our vision is to empower and transform the lives of children and people of Amaoti and surrounding communities, giving them hope for the future.

Our Learner Support Program primarily focuses on school-going children, from ECDs through to secondary school. We offer academic assistance, psychosocial support, life skills and skills development (through partnerships), and we also assist with purchasing uniforms and stationery to ensure that children can attend school with dignity and confidence. Due to lack of funds, we have only been able to purchase very limited school uniforms over the last few years.

In addition, our Aftercare programs run from Monday to Thursday, providing free tutoring through volunteer teachers, along with support groups on Fridays. We work closely with local schools and social workers, and our dedicated youth workers regularly visit the children at school and at home to ensure ongoing support.
