Short Story

Five Grade 11 Selbornians (Joshua, Trent , Dylan , Nathan and Jayden ) cast their lines and reeled in not just fish, but also memories and a chance to make a difference. We wish to help the EduSport Youth initiative by raising money to help build a Literacy Center at a school in Mdantsane. In the tranquil waters of the Nahoon River, we reeling in (and released) not only the catch of the day, but also got hooked into helping those in need and made waves in promoting literacy. Join us in activating generosity by donating a once off amount now.

Story

80% of grade 4 learners in South are functionally illiterate”.”Seventy four kids in one class”. These are just some of the gross inequalities in education and literacy in South Africa. A school in Mdantsane is in desperate need for a literacy Centre to help improve the literacy rates and instill a love of reading in the pupils in that area. EduSportYouth and Sport for lives are helping to raise funds to help build this literacy center.

EduSportYouth are a youth empowerment organisation that provide education and sport for those in need. They empower communities to uplift themselves by creating community jobs for the youth. They train previously unemployed youth as literacy or sport coaches. They partner with Mainyusane to place these youths in pre and primary schools. Masinyusanei is a registered NPO dedicated to the upliftment and the development of disadvantaged South Africans in the Gqeberha area.

Angling for lives aims to support these initiatives by getting sponsorship for the catch and release of fish in the Nahoon River in East London. We will do this by either getting sponsored per fish that we catch or get sponsored at a flat rate for the day. We will be fishing for 8 hours from the morning into the late afternoon
