Short Story

Our group (Andrew, Bradley, Luke, and Joss) of Grade 11 Learners from Selborne College decided to help raise funds for a school in Mdantsane that is in desperate need of a Literacy Centre. This would allow young learners to get the much needed literacy support on a daily basis. The goal of this campaign is to do a total of 1000 pushups in 1 day, a 1 pushup every minute. The non-profit organisation we have partnered with is EduSport Youth, a local non-profit organisation based in East London. Join us by donating generously towards our campaign.

Story

About EduSport Youth organisation: EduSport organisation is a youth empowerment organisation that provides education and sport to those who need it. They empower communities to up lift the communities by creating community jobs for youth to work in schools, clubs, and afternoon academic sport programs, this ensures that everyone has access to quality education and sport. They employ unemployed youth from the community and train them as Literacy coaches or Sport coaches. Through their partnership with Masinyusane, they put the youth to work in preschools, and primary schools either as sport or literacy coaches. Our Story: In South Africa, 80% of grade 4 students are functionally illiterate, making it difficult to teach each student individually and ensure that each student has the necessary skills in a class of 74 students. Upon hearing about this issue, my fellow Selbornians and I have made the decision to do our part to address this growing issue in our neighborhoods. With the help of this campaign, money will be raised for a school in Mdantsane that is in dire need of a literacy center. The money raised will go toward building a literacy center. As a result, courses will be smaller and kids will learn the fundamental skills they need. Our campaign is very physically challenging. It may not be seen as a challenge by doing 1 pushup every minute, but once fatigue in the body sets in, it will be tough. To read more about EduSport Youth click here. Other media:
