Short Story
We are a group of Grade 10 learners from Selborne College who have teamed up with two local non profits called EduSport Youth and Masiyusane. This is to try and raise money for a school in Mdantsane, which is in desperate need for a Literacy Centre.
This will help young learners read and/or write on a daily basis so they can have a superior education.
We think everyone deserves an education and it’s heartbreaking to think that some people don’t have the opportunity to learn to read and/or write.

Story
We have teamed up with EduSport organization is a youth empowerment organization that provides education and sport to those who need it. They empower communities to up lift the students by creating community jobs for the youth to work in schools, clubs, and afternoon sport programs, this ensures that everyone has access to quality education and sport. They employ learners who don’t have jobs from the community and train them as Literacy coaches or Sport coaches. Through their partnership with Masinyusane, they put the learners to work in pre-schools, primary schools and high-schools.
About 80% of Grade 4 learners in SA are functionally illiterate and being in a class of 74 learners makes classroom management and teaching extremely difficult.
This campaign aims to raise funds to build a new Literacy Centre for learners in Mdantsane. As a group, our campaign aims to uplift this community. “It’s only a drop in the ocean, but the ocean wouldn’t be the same without that drop” – Mother Teresa.
