Short Story
Sport was my opportunity, my “Amathuba”. This opportunity has provided me with a career, puts food on the table for my family, and allowed me to travel the world and work at some of the biggest global sporting events. It provided me with an opportunity to be educated with a sporting bursary at high school, which led to a tertiary bursary and eventually my career. “To whom much is given, much is expected”
I’d like to pay it forward and support a foundation that supports kids like me. I’d like help a sporting athlete of any ability to participate in a sporting tour without parents or schools extending themselves or having a child miss an opportunity to experience the magic of sport.
With your support, we can help cultivate this love for sport and allow a young man or woman to participate and gain experiences and memories with their peers, while having fun and exploring their “Amathuba”.
I will be running two marathons in two months which was essentially double the challenge of my 2023 campaign. The races will be 48KM or the 30 miler at the Karkloof 100 mile race on the 23rd of August 2024. The second marathon will be the Cape Town marathon, a month later on the 20th October 2024.
The goal is to raise funds for an organization called Amathuba, who provide bespoke mentoring for students receiving bursaries at KZN high schools.
The funds will be used to support students attending sporting tours during their high school journey. In 2023 we were able to raise R8000.00 which went towards sports equipment, kit and tours for an Amathuba foundation mentee, this year I aim to raise R20,000.00 during this campaign.
Please join me in activating generosity by donating now.

Story
The Amathuba Foundation exists to facilitate opportunities for learners at educational centers of excellence. The purpose of these opportunities is to bring out the best in these individuals by placing them in an environment in which they can thrive. The stories of these transformed lives will in turn inspire their families and greater communities, with the hope that one day these learners will be in a position to contribute to social change, themselves, in South Africa.
OUR MODEL
The Amathuba Foundation practices a part-funding model. The partner school, the Amathuba Foundation, and a learners’ caregiver are all responsible for funding a learner’s high school years.
The Amathuba Foundation believes in mentorship. A successful opportunity is not fully realised through funding alone. Real success is measured by how much a learner feels a sense of belonging within their learning space, where they can truly thrive. Which is why, through relationship, Amathuba Foundation can show learners that “how you feel matters”. This is why Amathuba Foundation invest in constant relationship building and mentorship where our recipients are given a voice. Amathuba Foundation don’t believe any recipient should simply ‘say the right thing and appreciate the opportunity’ and assimilate to their environment.
Our B-CRIGG mentorship programme, offered by young adult members of Amathuba and in partnership with champion teachers, runs congruently with the academic programme for the five years of their high school career.
Through this mentorship programme Amathuba Foundation focus on our core values: BELONGING, COMPASSION, RELATIONSHIPS, INTEGRITY, GRATITUDE and GENEROSITY.
