Short Story

Tries For Lives is an initiative undertaken by Selbornians: Phikolomzi M, Sandisiwe M, Avuyile N, Olu C and Chulumanco S. We are attempting to raise funds for a fellow Selbornian in Grade 8, Ubuko Mpotulo, in order to aqcuire a mechanical prosthetic hand for him, in hopes of making his life easier.  What the five of us have set out to do is to play touch rugby for three hours and raise R70 each hour for each member of the group. In order to get involved you can go to our campaign and pledge. Our goal is to reach R1000.

2022 has been a year of change at Selborne College. There has been a growing sense of social responsibility amongst the boys. This was sparked by one of our own brothers, Ubuko Mpotulo, who was born with a disease that resulted in the loss of his legs and an underdeveloped hand. The reason why this particular situation hit home for us was because Ubuko is a fellow Selbornian, a brother in the black and white. The values that we endorse at Selborne are encapsulated by the acronym F.I.R.E, which stands for faith, integrity, respect and enthusiasm. It was the values of integrity and enthusiasm that led our group to be part of this initiative. We want to make a difference, and so can you!
