Short Story

Hi, I’m Dan, one of the volunteer soccer coaches at LIV Village.

LIV Village located in Durban, South Africa, is a home for orphan and vulnerable children where they are cared for by foster mothers, and receive education and holistic care. A big part of this holistic care is through participation in sport.

We currently have 4 junior soccer teams: Under 7’s, 9’s, 10’s, and 12’s, and we are looking for people and organisations to partner with our us by fundraising much-needed resources for our teams.

You can partner with us to activate generosity by giving a once-off donation now or by pledging per goal.

You can be part of our impact by either:
Donating a specific amount of money per goal our children score.

For example – at the end of the season, if you pledge R10/$1/£1 per goal and we score 100 goals, you can donate R1000/$100/£100 at the end of the year.

Donating a once off amount now via this platform.

Fundraising in your sport of choice for this cause.

For example, let’s say you are a professional or amateur golfer. You can find friends and family to sponsor a specific amount of money for every birdie you make – ie. Birdies for Lives. Once you’ve collected the money, you can then transfer it towards this campaign, by paying on this page.

All funds raised will go directly to the purchase of soccer goals for our junior teams and basic wages for additional coaches.

2 sets of Goals: R20,000
Coaching for 1 year: R18,000 per coach per team.

If you would like to pledge per goal then please email your pledge, name and contact details through to daniel@weaverbird.co.za

Story

South Africa is the most unequal country in the world.

Children that don’t come from a healthy family start each game on a losing foot already.

Most South African children cannot afford to play with soccer socks & boots.
Most South African children don’t play soccer on a grass field.
Most South African children don’t receive sufficient nutritious food and education.
Most South African children don’t have a soccer ball at home to practice with.
Most South African children cannot afford a quality coach.
Most South African children don’t have a parent taking them to training or matches.

For our children playing soccer here at LIV Village, they’ve been able to close the gap with support from their amazing foster mums, staff and volunteers, and the support from very generous donors.

However, closing the gap is an ongoing battle and to keep giving these children a fair chance, for a brighter future, we’re asking for help.

The story of LIV started in 1997 when a vision was birthed in the heart of Tich Smith, to build a village for orphan and vulnerable children where they will have a home with a mother who loves them, food to eat, a school to educate them and where they will come to know God as their Father in heaven. Tich also dreamed of creating jobs for individuals in surrounding communities so that they can earn an income and look after their families. Tich, along with his wife Joan, has relentlessly been pursuing this dream and 20+ years later, after much groundwork done and building relationships in local communities, LIV is an established organisation looking after the most vulnerable of our society – orphan children.

Liv Village’s vision is to Rescue a child, Restore a life, Raise a leader and Release a star. To learn more about the incredible work they do, please watch the video below:
