Short Story

Pretoria Boys High School is mobilizing its community to make a substantial impact in the fight against osteosarcoma. Building on the success of our partnership with Lemon Tree Kids last year, which raised over R300k, we’re raising our ambitions for 2024 with a target of R500k.

Osteosarcoma, a bone cancer predominantly affecting children and young adults, imposes a profound emotional and financial burden on those diagnosed and their families. Recognising the challenges they face, we’re committed to providing crucial support, offering hope and assistance during their difficult journey.

In a unique effort to raise funds, Peet Crowther, an old boy from Pretoria Boys High School, and Chris Oldnall, a Deputy at Pretoria Boys will undertake a remarkable challenge. We’ll be swimming from mainland to Robben Island and back, aiming to raise R150k. Every rand raised will directly benefit Lemon Tree Kids, enabling them to provide essential support to these children and their families.

We extend a heartfelt invitation to the entire Pretoria Boys School Community to join us in this vital cause. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of those battling osteosarcoma. By coming together, we can be a beacon of hope for those in need.

You can play a pivotal role in our mission by utilising our pledge feature. Pledge an amount per try or goal scored by our Rugby and Hockey teams throughout the season. Every contribution, regardless of size, brings us closer to achieving our fundraising goal and making a real impact in the fight against osteosarcoma.

Join us as we activate generosity. Together, we can make a difference.

Lemon Tree Kids is a Non-Profit Company who after being involved with the Paediatric Oncology Units in Pretoria since December 2009, came to the realisation that these children are very special. Since then they have been committed to helping these children with cancer and to get them the best medical treatment available in a warm, comfortable environment.

They strive to do this through various projects and taking hands with the public to make a change.  Lets face it, they cannot do this on their own!

They have a clear set of goals that they are trying to achieve:

To transform all rooms / wards in the units into “FANTASY WORLDS”.  We want every child to feel it is their home away from home.
To improve the rooms and equipment to ensure the best Medical Care for all children with cancer.
To ensure the personnel have all the essential equipment available to offer the best possible care.
To support the children’s needs with regard to groceries, toiletries & essential clothing in an effort to improve food security while making the children more comfortable.
To support research initiatives to improve the survival of all children with cancer.
To support individual children with special needs if motivated by Paediatric Oncologist
