Short Story

The St Albans 1st Water Polo Team is playing their season for a vital cause, helping to ensure that children in underprivileged communities have access to clean, safe drinking water.

Throughout the water polo season, the team will be playing their matches for Kusini, aiming to raise R60 000 to fund water tanks for raw and clean water, a 1 500-litre water treatment system, and a booster pump, helping bring safe drinking water to schools that need it most.

As a water polo team, we spend countless hours in the pool, surrounded by water. This has made us reflect on how easily something as essential as water can be taken for granted. While we play in water, many South African children go through their school day without access to clean, drinkable water.

Through this campaign, our team hopes to play a small part in addressing this critical issue. Access to clean water is not a privilege, it is a fundamental human right. No child should have to learn, play, or grow without it.

Please support the boys by pledging per goal scored for the season, or by making a once-off donation.

Story

Kusini Water is a non-profit social enterprise providing sustainable access to clean, safe drinking water for underserved rural and peri-urban communities. Using innovative, off-grid water purification systems made from locally sourced materials ,including nanotechnology and macadamia nut shells .Kusini Water delivers reliable clean water where it is needed most.

Beyond infrastructure, Kusini Water empowers communities by training local youth to operate and maintain each system, creating long-term health, education, and economic benefits.

Access to clean water remains a critical challenge: over 11 million people in South Africa lack safe drinking water, one in three schools do not have access to clean water, and water-related diseases continue to place children at risk. Kusini Water’s work helps create healthier schools, stronger communities, and lasting change.
